Very few vineyards emerged on the Pinot Noir scene with the same splash as the Amber Ridge Vineyard. Great reviews seemed to be associated with every release from this property and this ultimately led to the vineyard being sold to the folks that own Nickel and Nickel Winery. Of course, this sale didn’t affect anything until the 2007 growing season so more on that later….
We are especially pleased with how the 2006 Siduri Amber Ridge Pinot Noir has turned out. We worked very hard to create a wine that exceeded the quality of last year’s release and ultimately settled on a blend that we loved, but that utilized only 5% of the final barrels. This type of selection process can be painful on the pocketbook but very rewarding when popping a cork. The final blend is 47% Clone 667 Pinot Noir, 27% Clone 115, and 26% Clone 777. It was aged in 60% new French oak and bottled after 10 months in barrel without fining or filtration.
The 2006 Siduri Amber Ridge Pinot Noir is perhaps the finest Pinot Noir we have produced from this vineyard. The wine shows spice, blueberry, and violet aromas. With a heavier body than the 2005 the wine reveals a bit of tar and earth along with strong fruit flavors and hints of allspice on the finish. Fine tannins finish out the wine leading to a long finish.
