Product Description

2011 Dry Creek Vineayrds Red Meritage The Mariner
Winemaker Notes:
The grapes for this delicious Bordeaux-inspired blend come from several of our most prized estate and hillside vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley. Initially, the aromatics are bright and earthy with cherries, Herbs de Provence and fresh boysenberries emanating from the glass. Several more minutes reveal hints of tarragon, nutmeg, black tea and blueberry nuances. The palate displays layers of texture and complexity with provocative flavors of rhubarb, Asian plums and Bing cherries. The tannins are soft and supple leading to a silky smooth finish. The 2011 vintage came with its share of weather related challenges during harvest however; we were able to successfully navigate this tricky vintage to produce an outstanding, full bodied wine.

2010 Vintage:
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"This is a lovely wine, based on Cabernet Sauvignon, but comprised of all five classic Bordeaux varieties. It’s smooth in tannins and soft in acidity, with luxurious black cherry, blueberry, cassis, plum and new oak flavors. Drink now–2018. "

89 Points - Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate
"Dry Creek’s dense ruby/purple-colored 2010 Proprietary Red The Mariner is composed of 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and the rest Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has sweet tannins as well as plenty of black currant, cedar and plum characteristics, medium to full body, a distinctive elegance, and none of the rustic earthiness that Bordeaux varietals grown in Dry Creek can sometimes possesses. Enjoy this beauty now and over the next decade."

2009 Vintage:
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"What’s so appealing about this wine is the precise control it exhibits. That’s partly the winemaker’s touch, but it’s also the terroir of Dry Creek Valley, which gives the wine crisp acids and less overt fruit than neighboring Napa Valley. It’s savory, with flavors of blackberries, currants, tobacco and herbs, along with a lovely brambly character. Drink now–2017. "

Winemaker Comments:
The 2009 Mariner presents enticing aromas with deep vibrant hues of attractive red fruits. Aromas are dominated by cassis and dark cherry, toasted vanilla oak, hints of crème brulée and notes of espresso. On the palate, the flavors are harmonious and supple with blackberry and sweet black cherry combining with a toasty complexity. The tannins are fine and grainy, lending excellent structure to this wine. The finish is long and lingering with a charming flavor profile that entices one for another sip.

Grape Composition: 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 10% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc
