The elegant, restrained 1996 Tapestry Reserve Proprietary Red is a good, politely-styled blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Medium-bodied, with copious quantities of new oak, this austere Bordeaux "wannabe" should be drunk over the next 7-8 years. This wine needs more mid-palate as well as additional layers of flavor. Less acidification would open up the wine's texture.

Tight in structure while plush in texture, offering rich plum, dark chocolate, cinnamon, spice and earth flavors that linger deliciously on the long, complex finish--this is one seductive California red. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2005. 14,500 cases made. (JL)
