93 Points - James Laube (Wine Spectator)
Five generations of Youngs have farmed their family estate in Californias Alexander Valley since 1858. Today, the family known for its rich agricultural heritage and innovative farming methods embraces a new chapter with several highly regarded wines. All grapes are Estate Grown, hand picked, gently juiced and made using fine French oak barrels. All wines are aged over one year in our caves. Robert Young was among the first to plant French clones of Chardonnay in America. A derivative of those original French clones are named after him: Robert Young Clone #17, a spectacular and distinctive Chardonnay vine that you find put to excellent use in this Chardonnay.
This 07 is spot on Robert Young Estate Chardonnay. The intense, tropical aromas of guava, nectarine, melon, and spice really show off the Robert Young clone charachter. It has a supple mouth feel and bright flavors backed by a big French oak barrel component giving it a soft finish that lasts forever. The 2007 vintage was superior in Sonoma County!!
